Mt. Hagen & Paiya Shows
Day 1 (Meals:  Lunch & Dinner on arrival)
Meet on arrival at Kagamuga airport - Mt. Hagen and transfer to hotel/lodge and check in. After check in, brief tour of Mt. Hagen market, coffee and tea plantations and retire to hotel/lodge.  Continue with dinner and overnight at Hotel/lodge.

Day 2  (Meals: B/fast, Lunch & Dinner)

Early breakfast and transfer to Paiya village for the mini show. Welcome by the chief and wives in traditional attire exposing some of the rich body ornaments. Continue touring different ethnical groups getting prepared doing own bits  - face paintings & body decorations with ornaments, plumes of birds of paradise and head wigs. Dressings take time with concentration in order to present a well and exceptional dressing with required costumes on their bodies.  Spend ample time exploring almost every sing sing group, taking photos, asking questions and learn about the dressings etc before they proceed into the main arena for presentation / sing sing.

Performers will be called to the main arena once everyone is ready. Prior to that tourists will be called to the stage to sit down, relax and wait to see the flow and take photos. Interestingly people in distinctive colors come together singing and dancing as they move towards the stage to present themselves to the tourists and the audience. Each group is given few minutes to showcase the dance and explain to the tourists and audience where they come from, about the dance and brief description of decorations and ornaments attached to their bodies. 
They are than called to the main arena to put on the show for tourists to take photos, mingle with the performers and even take part in the show. 
The show lasts for almost an hour followed with courtship ceremonies - mock fighting using bows & arrows, traditional marriage, exchanging pigs, money and other valuable cultural items. The show ends with traditional cuisine prepared underground mixed with hot stones vegetables, lamp covered with banana leaves. This type of cooking is called "Mumu" which can feed more than 100 people. It is a special dish for big gatherings and occasions. Local mumu is to celebrate the festivity with the performers and tourists. Tourists have the chance of tasting local cuisine. Afternoon retire to hotel/lodge.

•Paiya mini show has been highly commended because of the village setting that perfectly blends with the environment, so as the friendly people who love to meet tourists and share their cultures. The organization aspect of it has been highly commended as well.
•Mt. Hagen to Paiya village is approximately 45 minutes drive
•Show starts around 10:00am but preparations starts around 8:00am. Recommend early arrival to see the preparations & for photographing.
•No fees charged for photographing
•Also village tour is recommended. Ask your guides to tour Paiya village - farms,  huts and even meet with the people in there settings. 
•Private shooting is OK for professional photographers with big cameras. Paiya tours can organize that.

Day 3  (Meals: B/fast, Lunch & Dinner)
Early breakfast and transfer to Mt. Hagen show ground for the Mt. Hagen culture festival. This will be a big festival that involves more than 80 ethnical dancing groups from the highlands and costal provinces of PNG. Transfer early in order to see the preparations to performance. The show goes on for 2 days. Tourists will be allowed to enter the main arena with tourist badges. 
Enjoy taking photos, mingling with performers and learn about different cultures.  Afternoon retire to hotel/lodge and refresh for few minutes and continue to Waghi valley for coffee and tea plantations and Mt. Hagen Market - one of the best markets in PNG that sells mostly vegetables and fruits. Afteroon, retire to hotel/lodge.

Note: Same performers/dancers will appear on the next day.

Day 4 (Meals: B/fast, Lunch & Dinner)
B/fast and transfer to Mt. Hagen show ground for the 2nd day of the festival. Show finishes around 1:00pm followed with speeches. You could retire around 1:00pm to hotel/lodge and relax for few moments and transfer out to Rondon for scenic view and retire to hotel /lodge.

Day 5 (Meals: B/fast)
B/fast and transfer to Port Moresby and onward international destination

Mt. Hagen show is an annual event where different ethnical groups come together to celebrate and showcase their deep rooted traditions and cultures. Normally the show is held on the third weekend of August.

Coincided with the festival is Paiya Mini Show which is also an annual event held a day prior to the Mt. Hagen show. The mini show is held in a village setting about 40kms out of Mt. Hagen town. The show has been highly commended because of the village setting that perfectly blends with the environment and the friendly people who love to meet tourists and share their culture and its organization. We have few options for extended programs both before and after the Mt. Hagen show. Tourists are advised to confirm interested options and make early bookings. Normally accommodation becomes an issue because of increased number of tourists.

Option 1: Mt. Hagen & Paiya Mini Shows
5 Days & 4 Nights
Day 1 (Meals: Lunch & Dinner on arrival)
After customs clearance walk out to the lobby area and meet with the guide who will be waiting to assit you  to check in for the Wewak flight, change money and even replace Sim card on your mobile phone.
After attending to all the formalities walk to the  domestic terminal wait at the lounge area  unitl your flight is announed for boarding. Meet/greet on arrival and tranfer to Boutique hotel. Overnight - Boutique hotel.

Note:
•Mobile phones can be accessed in almost every village.
• Boutique hotel is one of the good hotels in Sepik set on a hill top overlooking Bismark sea and the town of Wewak. Food is good. Rooms are self contained with hot water, multi channel TV stand by genset and security provided.
•You need at least K600.00/ $200.00 for shopping and may be tips in the Sepik river alone.  Sepik is known for hand made carvings and surely you will be attracted to buy some.
•ATM machines are located in every town and you can access them when you need  additional cash. Almost every bank cards are eccepted.

Day 2 (Meals: Lunch & Dinner on arrival)
Early B/fast and transfer to Pagwi village, an entrance to the mighty Sepik River. Approximately 4 hrs drive from Wewak. Connect with motorist canoe and transfer downstream to Kanganamun village where you will be welcomed by the local people in their tradional fashion. Here settle in for accommodation and overnight.

Note:
•Accommodation is basic with matress on the floor, shower in buckets,  pit toilets provided outside. Generators used in some locations while others  use torches.
•People live a tradtional lifestyle  here  and you need to follow certain rules & aquinted with until you are released  after a few days experience.

Day 3  (Meals: B/fast, Lunch & Dinner)
B/fast and get prepared for the mini festival organized by the local people. The local people put on traditional dance - singing and dancing to the beat of the kundu drums. Songs reflect the dance, importance of the community even some praise and worship songs of gods. Take time to take photos, mingle with the people and learn about their cultures and way of life. 

Take time also to visit Spirit houses and spiritual displays - gods believed to be living spirits that had been worshiped for many years. Do your own study on sago making, weaving, carvings and art displays. Visit the huts, how they are constructed and do general village study till afternoon and retire to the village for shower followed with dinner and overnight.  Overnight:  Kanganamun village.

Note:
•No fees charged for taking photos. This is same in other centers.
•Tips are not common in PNG but because of tourists influence this has become a practice. Expectation is there but guides/porters and service providers do not request for tips. It is up to the tourists to decide the amount.
•Always ask the guide if you are not sure of anything.
•Road leading to Pagwi is bad with lots of bumpy and pot holes. Be prepared for the bad road.

Day 4 (Meals: B/fast, Lunch & Dinner)
B/fast followed with short presentations - handshakes, hugs & warm kisses, farewell and on to the dugout canoes and transfer upstream to Pagwi and on to a waiting vehicle and transfer back to Wewak and overnight. Overnight: Boutique hotel.

Day 5 (Meals: B/fast, Lunch & Dinner)
Morning B/fast and transfer to Mt. Hagen via Port Moresby. Meet on arrival and transfer to hotel/lodge and check in. After check in brief tour of local markets & farms and retire to hotel/lodge followed with dinner and overnight.

Note:
•Accommodation is an issue because of the festival in Mt. Hagen. Tourists are advised to book early in order to secure accommodation.
•Our accommodation at Magic Mountain Nature lodge is fully booked for 2019. However we are able to secure good /reasonable accommodation if early bookings are done.
•Direct flight Sepik / Mt. Hagen can be done with PNG Air direct instead of connecting flight Wewak/Port Moresby/Mt Hagen with Air Niugini. Check with PNG Air on line and do your own bookings.

•Bring enough films for photographing including chargers.

Day 8  (Meals: B/fast, Lunch & Dinner)
B/fast and continue with the show until midday and retire.

Day 9 (Meals: B/fast, Lunch & Dinner)
Early breakfast and transfer to airport for flight to Port Moresby. Meet on arrival and transfer to hotel and check in followed with lunch. After lunch visit Botanical garden, national museum, Parliament house, Koki market, visit house built on timber post above the water & fish market and retire to hotel.

Note:
•No direct flights to other provinces from Mt. Hagen therefore connecting flight out of Port Moresby is necessary.
•Even no road access to Port Moresby therefore only by aircraft.
•Port Moresby is an interesting city therefore  a brief visit in recommended.

Day 10 (Meals: B/fast, Lunch & dinner)
Morning B/fast and transfer to the airport for flight to Milne Bay. Milne Bay is located at the tip of PNG sharing sea boarders with Australia (Queensland). Meet on arrival and transfer to Tawali Resort. The hotel provides shuttle bus with guides and security. Alotau to the end of the road is approximately 2 hours drive and further 25 minutes by dinghy to Tawali Resort. There are activities to do after check in and they are short walks & water activities such as snorkeling.

Note
•Tawali Resort is located on the other side of a lagoon.
•It has bungalows with hot water, private toilet and shower & multi channel TV
•The location is beautiful overlooking the sea

Day 11 (Meals: B/fast, Lunch & Dinner)

B/fast and transfer to villages for culture performance, singsing, arts and crafts, waterfall canoe building, carving, skull caves which have stories behind and village study. Afternoon retire to hotel/lodge. Skull locations are some kms away from the hotel and be prepared to walk.

Day 12 (Meals: B/fast)
Full day sea activities - diving, snorkeling, fishing or lunch out in small atolls in the open sea.  Retire in the afternoon.

Day 13 Meals: B/fast)
Transfer to Port Moresby and continue to international destination.

Note: You could stay a night in Port Moresby and transfer out the next day.

Option 2: Mt. Hagen Show & Extended Programs
13 Days & 12 Nights
Mt. Hagen show and extended programs cover Port Moresby, Sepik, Mt. Hagen and Milne Bay province or other provinces of interests such as Rabaul & Madang. Extended programs can be covered before or after the Mt. Hagen show. There are options to do other activities while in Mt. Hagen as well and they are trekking / climbing Mt. Wilhelm the highest mountain in PNG, Mt. Giluwe, the 7th volcanic summit and birding, especially the birds of paradise.

Sepik is famous for its waterways along the mighty Sepik River. The people along the river live a traditional lifestyle. Farming, fishing and hunting are daily activities.  Each village is unique in nature and culture.  Tourists enjoy Sepik when they really get down to the people and learn about their cultures and style of living.  The famous icon is the Sepik Haus Tambran (Sepik spirit house), the crocodile festival, and many different types of carvings.
While in the Highlands tourists will enjoy beautiful sceneries, high mountain terrains, fast flowing rivers, great valleys and of course the people and their rich cultures/ festivals such as the Mt. Hagen and Goroka shows.

Not every PNG cultures/traditions are presented in the Mt. Hagen show. We recommend tourists to extend programs to see and experience more of distinctive lifestyles of ethnic groups in PNG.

“Full day birding”
Birds of Papua New Guinea (PNG) are spectacular in their natural beauties and can be a fascinating experience to watch. Some species of birds are extrovert; they take pride in their elaborate courtship displays while others are more evasive while others are nocturnal. Part of the fun is trying to locate them in their habitats. Be prepared to stay a while and you are guaranteed to have an encounter with some of the most unique, colorful and endemic species. More than 100 species of birds of paradise can be seen at Magic Mountain and near by locations. The National bird is Ragianna bird of Paradise which is red in color and can be found in the lowlands of the highlands. Your birding program will be based at Magic mountain. Some of the unique species that you would expect to see around Mt. Hagen and Magic Mountain are: Regianna bird of paradise, blue bird of paradise, Lesser bird of Paradise, superb bird of paradise, parrots, black seagull, King of Saxony and other endangered species. Accommodation will be at the Magic Mountain Nature Lodge and village huts on extended programs. Mosquitoes and malaria are uncommon here. Papua New Guinea is home to many plants and animals not found anywhere else on earth. Thirty-eight (38) of the 43 known birds of paradise are found in Papua New Guinea. They are an important part of our natural heritage.

B/fast as early as 4:30am and transfer to Rondon which is about 30Kms out of Mt. Hagen town. Meet the Local guides / porters who will be waiting to assist you to the birding site. It will take approximately 45 minutes to reach the site. Settle in and wait patiently until you are in contact with the birds of paradise and other bird species. Spend sufficient time here doing own studies on the birds and the nature especially exotic plants, trees, orchids etc.
The panorama overlooking Mt. Hagen city and Waghi valley is gorgeous so as the surrounding villages. Briefly visit nearby villages, meet with the people and learn about their lifestyle as you descend. You will learn more if you decide to spend few moments of your time with the people.   Transfer to Mt. Hagen for lunch at Traveler’s Hut.

Birds likely to be encountered at Rondon are:
King of Saxony BOP, Superb King of Saxony BOP, Princes Stephanie’s Astraphia BOP Superb BOP, blue BOP,Brown Sickle bill BOP, black sickle bill BOP,  Brown sickle bill - BOP, short tailed paradigalla BOP, Blue BOP. It will take a while to view because of the distance.

Blue capped ifritta, fantails, Robins, swallows, whistlers, Doves & pigeons,  falcons, Parrots, Lori keets. Macgregor Bower bird, scrub wrens, berry packers, cuckoo - shrike, Red colored myzomela, yellow browed melidectors, Belford melidectors, Hooded manikins, white shouldered fairy wren, willie wag tail, Pied chat, Blue grey robin, Niugini White eyes, Island leaf warble, Ornate Maledictes, Common Smoky honey eater, Stout billed Cuckoo shrike, Niugini mountain Pigeon, Yellow breasts fruit Dove, Black billed cuckoo Dove, Brown cuckoo dove, Lesser Melampitta, dove, orange billed lorikeet, Yellow billed lorikeet, Torrent lark, Fan tail berry pecker, Friendly fan tail, Black fain tail, Dimorphic fantail,Lesser ground RobinYellow Billed Lorikeet, Orange billed lorikeet, Brown breasted durigin, Papuan Lorikeet, Macgregor  bower bird, Black Kite, Brahminy kite, Glossy swiflet, Great wood swallow, Orange crowned Fairy Wren, Bremhns tiger parrot, Rufous Snapped Whistler, goshawk & kites, plump face lorikeet, brush cuckoo, black pitohui, Fan tail cuckoo and other species.

•Our bird guide is from Rondon and he is able to lead you to his and other villages.
• Rondon is 1700 meters above sea level

Continue to Nebilyer valley for Regianna, Superb and Magnificent Birds of paradise and other bird species. The distance between Mt. Hagen and Nebilyer is approximately 30Kms. Meet on arrival and transfer to the birding site which is not far from the car park. The people there are friendly and they will accompany you to the birding site. Spend sufficient time there for a clear observation & photographing. After you have see the birds here continue to Kumul lodge to seen birds come to the feeding table. Here expect to see Ribbon tailed Astraphia, Stephanie Astraphia, black single bill and other Non Bop species. Retire late afternoon to Magic Mountain and overnight.

Trumpet Manicored BOP,  Jobi Manicored- BOP and other non BOP species - Helmet friar bird. Yellow breasted bower bird, Rainbow lorikeet, hooded pitohui, Doubled eyed pygmy parrot, Clamorous reed warbler, White shoulder  fairy  wren, great wood swallow, Little grass bird, Dollar bird, Purple swamp Hen and more.

Day 10 (B/fast, Lunch & Dinner)
Early B/fast and transfer to Baiyer River for Lesser Bird of Paradise. It will take approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Birds come for display between 6:00am & 7am. Wait patiently until you get a full display. 
You also have the chance of seeing other bird species around Baiyer area, such as Hooded pitohui, Zoe imperial Pigeon, Trumpet Manucorded, Jobi  Manucored, Southern Baza, Helmetted friar bird, Great Egret, White shouldered fairy wren, Yellow breasted bower bird, Sulphuric - crested Cockatoo, Bhlys Hornbill, Black winged kite, Black kite, Rainbow lorikeet, Dollar bird ,Purple swamp Hen and other bird species. Continue to Baiyer River bird sanctuary once renowned for collection of bird and animal species. The sanctuary has been closed for some time but redevelopment is taking place now. Visit the site for lesser Bop and other bird species and retire to hotel or lodge.

Day 11 (B/fast, Lunch & Dinner)
B/fast at 4:30am and transfer to Rondon once more for Blue bird of paradise. The distance between the main road leading to the birding site is approximately an hour’s walk. Wait patiently until you get a clear view and retire to Mt. Hagen. Lunch and continue to Kumul lodge to see birds that come to the feeding table and feed. Here expect to see White ribbon tailed astraphia, tephanie astraphia & black single bill and other non bird of paradise species. Afternoon retire to Magic Mountain Nature lodge and overnight.

Day 12  (B/ fast, Lunch & Dinner)
B/fast and transfer to the airport for flight to Port Moresby. Meet on arrival and  transfer to hotel/lodge and check in.  After check in, tour Port Moresby - Botanical garden bird of paradise species, cuscus and other animals can be seen here as well. If time permits continue to Wildlife Park to see birds in an ovary and cages.  Beautiful gardens especially orchids. Afternoon retire to hotel and overnight.

Day 13 (B/fast, Lunch & Dinner)
B/fast and early transfer to Warirata National Park located approximately an hour's drive out of Port Moresby.
The road leading to Warirata National Park is sealed but curved as you ascend at an altitude of approximately 800 meters above sea level. The panoramic view overlooking Sogeri plateau and the city of Port Moresby is stunning. You will notice incredible locations for photographing as you stroll within the park.
The park is an absolute bird and nature lover's haven and is home to many species of birds, orchids and exotic plants. Spend time at your leisure exploring different species of birds including the national bird of Paradise - Regianna and retire. 

On the way visit the National Park where birds & animals species are kept - in an ovary, paddocks, fences and cages including a few bird of paradise species. Continue to Port Moresby and overnight.

Day 14 (B/fast Lunch & Dinner)
B/fast and transfer to airport and continued international destination.

Extended Program can be done before or after the Mt. Hagen show. Options available are; trekking / climbing Mt. Wilhelm, the highest mountain in PNG, Mt. Giluwe, the 7th volcanic summit and birding, especially the birds of paradise. We extend our programs to Sepik because of its water ways along the mighty Sepik River and the people who live traditional lifestyle - farming, fishing and carving with strong cultural believes.

•We recommend tourists to do birding after the Mt. Hagen show when everyone has transferred out of Mt. Hagen.
•Birding  will be done in Mt. Hagen & Port Moresby only.
•We cover Sepik because of cultural importance.
